It is a time to remember and reflect upon those fathers and mothers who had laid their lives for us and shown us and are showing the way of 'true faith.' Many a time, we confuse ourselves with the term 'true faith.' In fact, 'true faith,' generally speaking, is nothing but the 'right understanding of God.' How do we get this right understanding? According to Orthodox tradition, 'God understanding' is fulfilled not just by acquiring knowledge about God but by 'experiencing' the life of God. The crucial question over here is that how do we get into the true experience of God?
We have many sources to know and study God in today's world but rarely find resources that motivate us to experience the true God. In this context, one must understand that those who direct us towards the experience of God are called Saints. In this sense, saints are not necessarily the faithful departed souls alone. They can also be people who live among us, steering us towards God through their divine life.
One fascinating characteristic of the departed Saints is that they live with us forever. They are part of our living community and are not dead; they actively share their living participation with us. In other words, Saints, the holy fathers and mothers of the church who gave their lives to protect the true faith, continue to be the shining stars in our lives.
Let us be reminded that praying with the company of saints will lead us into Sainthood and thus open our way to eternal salvation. However, be mindful that it is not the saints who provide us eternal salvation; instead, their ways of life and dedication lead us to Lord Jesus Christ. That is why we do not pray to Saints; but we intercede with them – meaning as Christian, we do believe that our community is in the living communion with those who are sleeping in Christ, living in Christ, and the emerging souls in Christ – so that we will know the ways towards the eternal salvation.
Let us all be encouraged to have a wonderful Christian life through intercessory prayers of all the Saints who live in Christ. God bless you all.
Mary who is also called St. Mary the Virgin, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Mary, Mary Mother or God or the Virgin Mary is believed by many to be the greatest of all Christian saints.
St. Mary is called Mother of God because she gave birth to Jesus, who is in the Trinity along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
St. Mary plays an important role in providing us with a female that’s right at the heart of events and is the role model for mothers.

Many can learn from St. Thomas, and his traits can be implied to day to day life. St. Thomas was a committed man to Jesus, "Let us also go, that we may die with him". He would never hesitate to join Jesus whether it meant dying or living. Likewise, we should consider God as our father and commit to him as gratitude for many has he does for us. St. Thomas carried with him the strength of understanding. He was curious to go in-depth when approaching the Kingdom of God.
St. Thomas feast day is held on the 12th of December. This day acknowledges St. Thomas and his efforts of introducing Christianity to India and preaching the word of Jesus. He is now classified as the patron saint of the blind and India.
On December 21st in the year 7 C.E., after living a spiritual and devotional life to God and Jesus, he was murdered by envious Hindu priests of Kali by a spear they were carrying with them. He passed away at St. Thomas mount, India.
St. Thomas was well known for having doubted the resurrection of Jesus and was also the first person to acknowledge the divinity of Christ and the truth. This doubting mindset and belief of wanting proof was the reason Jesus chose him as a disciple. Spreading the word of God to India and Christianity, lead him to be a prominent man among many and worshipped as a glorious saint.
St. Thomas is known to be the doubting apostle due to his actions.
He was absent from the first time Jesus met upon the disciples after
the resurrection. He also stated:
'Unless I see the mark of the nails
in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks, and put my hand
into his side, I will not believe"(Luke 20:25)
As repentance, from then on
Thomas made an act of faith, he fell at the feet of the Lord and believed.
This incident gave a rise to the expression 'the doubting apostle'.
Born in Cappadocia, Turkey in the 3rd century.
Died on 23rd April 303 AD, Nicomedia.
Saint George was a Christian who became a saint in Christianity. He was a soldier in the Roman army. His parents were Christians of Greek origin. His father, Gerontius, was a cappadocian serving in Roman army. His mother, Polychronia, was a Christian from the city of Lod in Palestine. So St.George was a soldier of Cappadocian Greek and Palestinian origin, member of the Praetorian Guard for Roman emperor Diocletian.
He was sentenced to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith.
He became one of the most venerated saints and megalomatyrs in Christianity.
He has been especially venerated as a military saint since the crusades.
Folks in a small town, lived in fear,
For they glared at their death that was near.
Cursed by a dragon, tall and fiery,
Chewing children, making life a misery
Dreadful day for the King and his daughter,
Drawing near to make herself slaughter.
Standing behind the wall, completely helpless,
Staring at the evil beast, but no ‘will’ to express.
A soldier came on the way, riding on a horse
And saw a princess, kissing on the cross.
The soldier puts the misery end that night
Because, in Christ this Knight was right.
With his head up, confronted the fearsome monster,
No fear engulfed him and pulled the sword faster.
Stabbed the dragon on the throat, rolled its head off!
Silence was in halt because he won the face-off!
Folks of the town screamed in joy, and they held a feast,
On him, who was Saint George, the one who killed the evil beast!
Let us always be like him and do what is right and courageous.
And follow God tight with no fear or despair as St. George was.
ഇടവക പള്ളിയിലെ പഴയ മാമ്മോദീസാ തൊട്ടിയുടെ മുമ്പിൽ കണ്ണടച്ച് പ്രാർത്ഥനാനിർഭരമായി നിൽക്കുന്ന ഒന്നാം ക്ലാസ് കാരിയായിരുന്ന എന്റെ തോളത്ത് കൈ വച്ച് ക്ലാസ് ടീച്ചർ ചോദിച്ചു "മോളെന്താ ഇവിടെ നിന്നു പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുന്നത് ?"
അതോ? അതെന്റെ അമ്മ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട് വിശുദ്ധ അൽഫോൻസാമ്മയെ മാമ്മോദീസ മുക്കിയ തൊട്ടിയാണിത്. എന്നെയും ഈ തൊട്ടിയിലാണ് മാമ്മോദീസാ മുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന്. അതുകൊണ്ട് കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ഒത്തിരി ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള അൽഫോൻസാമ്മ നിനക്കു വേണ്ടി പ്രത്യേകം പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുമെന്ന്.
ക്ലാസ് ടീച്ചർ ഒട്ടും സങ്കോചിക്കാതെ എന്നെ നോക്കി പുഞ്ചിരിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് പറഞ്ഞു, "എന്നാൽ ഉറപ്പായും വലുതാകുമ്പോൾ മോൾക്കും ഒരു വിശുദ്ധയാകാം."
അന്നത്തെ ആറു വയസുകാരിയുടെ നിഷ്കളങ്കമായ വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ സന്തോഷത്തിന് അതിരുകൾ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ട് എല്ലാ ദിവസവും രാവിലെ പള്ളിവക സ്ക്കൂളിൽ ക്ലാസു തുടങ്ങും മുമ്പ് പള്ളിയിൽ കയറി പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുക പതിവാക്കി, ഒപ്പം എന്റെ 'സ്വകാര്യ അഹകാരമായി' മാറിയ വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ മാമ്മോദീസാ തൊട്ടിയുടെ മുൻപിലും. മൂന്നാം ക്ലാസ്സിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോഴേക്കും 'വേദപഠനക്ലാസ്സിൽ പാപ-പുണ്യങ്ങളെ പറ്റിയും വിശുദ്ധിയിൽ ജീവിക്കണമെങ്കിൽ എന്തൊക്കെ ചെയ്യണം - ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കണം, ആരോടും വഴക്ക് കൂടാതെയും അനുസരണത്തിലും ജീവിക്കണം എന്നതുമൊക്കെ വലിയ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ട് ഉള്ള കാര്യമാണെന്നു മനസ്സിൽ തോന്നി തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോഴും' 'എന്റെ സ്വന്തം മാമ്മോദീസാതൊട്ടി' എന്നെ വിശുദ്ധ പദവിയിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കും എന്നെനിക്ക് വലിയ വിശ്വാസമായിരുന്നു. "മുട്ടയിൽ ഒരു മയിലുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ , പുഴുവിൽ ഒരു ശലഭമുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ നിന്നിൽ ഒരു വിശുദ്ധ ഉണ്ട്" എന്ന് നോട്ട്ബുക്കിൽ വേദപാഠം പഠിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന സിസ്റ്റർ എഴുതിതന്നത് എന്റെ വിശ്വാസത്തിന് ആക്കം കൂട്ടി.
ആകാലത്തു കൈയിൽ കിട്ടുന്ന 'കുട്ടികളുടെ ദീപിക' യിലും' സ്നേഹസേന' യിലും ഒക്കെ വരുന്ന വിശുദ്ധരുടെ ജീവചരിത്രം വായിക്കുക പതിവാക്കി. വി. മരിയ ഗൊരെത്തിയുടെയും, വി.ഡൊമിനിക്ക് സാവിയോയുടേയും, വി. ഡോൺ ബോസ്കോയുടെയും ഒക്കെ വിശുദ്ധിയിലേക്കുളള യാത്രകളെ കുറിച്ച് വായിച്ച് പുളകം കൊണ്ടു. അങ്ങനെ ചെറിയ ചെറിയ ആശയടക്കങ്ങളും, നന്മ പ്രവർത്തികളും, ത്യാഗങ്ങളുമൊക്കെയായി വിശുദ്ധയാകാനുള്ള പരിശീലനം ആരംഭിച്ചു. മഠത്തിൽ ചേർന്ന് കന്യകാ സ്ത്രീ ആവാനും തീരുമാനം എടുത്തു. ആദ്യ കുർബാന സ്വീകരണം കഴിഞ്ഞ് പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട കൂട്ടുകാരിയുടെ കാതിൽ രഹസ്യമായി പറഞ്ഞു "ഞാനും വലുതാകുമ്പോൾ ഒരു വിശുദ്ധ ആകും കാരണം അൽഫോൻസാമ്മയുടെ മാമ്മോദീസാ തൊട്ടിയിലാണ് എന്നെയും മുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്."
പിറ്റേ ഞായറാഴ്ച പള്ളിയിൽ ചെന്നപ്പോഴാണ് ഹൃദയഭേദകമായ ആ കാര്യം എന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരി എന്നോട് പറയുന്നത് അവളെയും ആ മാമ്മോദീസാ തൊട്ടിയിലാണത്രേ മുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്, മാത്രമല്ല അൽഫോൻസാമ്മ വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവളാകുന്നത് മുൻപ് ആ ഇടവകയിൽ ജനിച്ച എല്ലാവരേയും അതേ മാമ്മോദീസാ തൊട്ടി യിലാണ് മുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അവളുടെ അമ്മ പറഞ്ഞത്രേ. ആ സത്യത്തിന്റെ തിരിച്ചറിവ് വിശുദ്ധിയിലേയ്ക്ക് പറന്നുയരാൻ കൊതിച്ച എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞു ചിറകുകൾക്ക് ഒരു വലിയ ക്ഷതമായിരിരുന്നു എന്ന് ആരും അറിഞ്ഞില്ല. അങ്ങനെ വീട്ടിലെ 'കുഞ്ഞു വഴക്കാളി' ആയിരുന്ന ഞാൻ ഒരു മാമ്മോദീസാതൊട്ടിയുടെ ബലത്തിൽ വിശുദ്ധയാവാൻ കൊതിച്ചത് വൃഥാവിലായി.
അമ്പിളിമാമനെ കൈവെള്ളയിൽ ആക്കണമെന്ന ഒരു കുഞ്ഞിന്റെ അതിയായ ആഗ്രഹം വലുതാകുമ്പോൾ എങ്ങോട്ട് സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നുവോ അതേ ദിശയിലേയ്ക്ക് തന്നെ വിശുദ്ധയാകണം എന്ന ആഗ്രഹവും സഞ്ചരിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയിരിക്കണം. പ്രായത്തിന്റെ കോണിപ്പടികൾ ഓരോന്നും ചവിട്ടിക്കയറിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ 'വിശുദ്ധ' ആകാൻ സാധിക്കാത്തതിന്റെ നഷ്ടബോധം തെല്ലും എന്നെ അലട്ടുന്നില്ല. കാരണം വിശുദ്ധിയിലേക്കാണ് ദൈവം നമ്മെ ഓരോരുത്തരെയും വിളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെന്നും, നമുക്ക് ലഭിച്ച വിളിക്ക് യോഗ്യമായ ജീവിതം നയിക്കുമ്പോൾ പരമപരിശുദ്ധനായ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വിശുദ്ധിയിൽ നാമും പങ്കുകാരാകുന്നുവെന്നുമുള്ള യാഥാർത്ഥ്യം സുവിശേഷകനിലൂടെ ഞാൻ തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നു.
ദൈവസ്നേഹത്താൽ ജ്വലിച്ച് ത്യാഗനിർഭരമായ ജീവിതം കൊണ്ട് വിശുദ്ധരായവർ, ദൈവനാമത്തിൽ രക്തസാക്ഷിത്വം വരിച്ചവർ, മറ്റുള്ളവനിൽ ദൈവത്തെകണ്ടു കൊണ്ടു നിസ്വാർത്ഥമായി അവരെ സ്നേഹിക്കുകയും പരിപാലിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത് വിശുദ്ധ പദവിയിലേയ്ക്ക് ഉയർന്നവർ, അങ്ങനെ തിന്മയ്ക്കെതിരെയുള്ള പോരാട്ടത്തിൽ വിജയം കൈവരിച്ച് നമുക്ക് മുമ്പേ കടന്നുപോയ വിശുദ്ധ ഗണത്താൽ അനുഗ്രഹീതരാണ് ക്രൈസ്തവരായ നാമെല്ലാം.
നമ്മുടെ അനുദിന ജീവിതത്തിൽ വിശുദ്ധരുടെ മാതൃകയും, മാദ്ധ്യസ്ഥവും ചെലുത്തുന്ന സ്വാധീനം
ചെറുതല്ല. ചന്ദനം ചാരിയാൽ ചന്ദനം മണക്കുമെന്ന് പറയുന്നത് പോലെ തന്നെ വിശുദ്ധരോട്
ചേർന്നു നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു ജീവിക്കുമ്പോൾ ആ വിശുദ്ധിയുടെ പരിമളം നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിലും
പരക്കുന്നു. വിശുദ്ധരുടെ മാദ്ധ്യസ്ഥത്തിലൂടെ നാം ദൈവത്തെ ആരാധിക്കുമ്പോൾ
പാപങ്ങളേയും രോഗങ്ങളെയും, പ്രതികൂല സാഹചര്യങ്ങളെയും എല്ലാമതിജീവിച്ച് കൊണ്ട്,
വീണ് പോയാലും എഴുന്നേൽക്കുവാനുള്ള ശക്തിയും ദൈവകൃപയും നമുക്ക് ലഭിക്കുന്നു.
പരമപരിശുദ്ധനായ ദൈവത്തെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ വഹിക്കുന്ന നമ്മുടെ ഓരോരുത്തരുടേയും
കുറവുകൾ നിരവധിയാണെങ്കിലും ഈ ലോക ജീവിതത്തിലെ ഓരോ സഹനങ്ങളിലൂടെയും
ത്യാഗങ്ങളിലൂടെയും നാമറിയാതെ തന്നെ ആ വിശുദ്ധിയിലേയ്ക്കാണ് നാം നടന്നടുക്കുന്നത്.
