Home Parish History
In the year 2013, faithful Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Christians who had migrated to Melbourne, Australia from different parts of the world decided to form a congregation “St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church”, to serve the Lord in the traditional Orthodox faith and to keep this faith going into the future generations under the leadership & support of H.G. Paulose Mor Ireanious, H. E. Mor Malatius Malki Maki, Syrian Orthodox Arch bishop in Australia.
Our Story
It is with profound gratitude that I thank God Almighty for enabling the St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Melbourne community, to serve Him faithfully in this city for nearly twelve years.
We remain deeply appreciative of the wholehearted love and generosity of the Mor Yakoob Syrian Orthodox Church community, who graciously shared their church with us. Within the walls of Mor Yakoob, our community grew in faith and fellowship, and it was there that we first felt the call to continue growing by establishing a worship space of our own.
By God’s grace, our long-cherished dream became a reality on December 21, 2025, when we purchased our new church property at 511–517 Barry Road, Dallas. I extend my sincere thanks to every past and present member of St. Thomas JSO Church, as well as to the managing and building committees, for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts.
Today, as we celebrate God’s faithfulness throughout the past year, we also thank Him for granting us the blessing of a place where our community can truly feel at home. Though we have begun a new chapter here, our journey is far from complete. A church building is a sacred gift, but we must continue to deepen our understanding of our calling by worshipping God and also serving humanity with purpose and compassion. To build this community as God’s community, we must come together in unity and reflect prayerfully on the mission entrusted to the members of St. Thomas JSO Church. This is a sacred and tremendous responsibility.
There is also much to be done to shape our new premises into a welcoming home for our children, youth, families, and elders—not only on Sundays but throughout the week. God has blessed us with this space; our gratitude must be expressed through the wise and thoughtful stewardship of this property. We must envision ourselves as a visionary community where every generation—young and old—finds belonging, purpose, and inspiration.
